Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is one of the greatest basketball players of all time. He led the UCLA Bruins to three NCAA championships, and began his professional career with the Milwaukee Bucks in 1969. He won his first NBA championship in 1971, then won another five championships after being traded to the Los Angeles Lakers in 1975. Adbul-Jabbar remains the NBA’s all-time leading scorer, with 38,387 points.
He has written seven books on the contributions of African Americans to U.S. culture and history. His recent documentary film, On the Shoulders of Giants, describes how the Harlem Rens broke the color barrier in professional basketball.
The Skyhook Foundation, which Abdul-Jabbar founded in 2010, motivates young people to pursue higher education by using sports to promote social and racial justice.
