Eddie Floyd is a respected R&B singer/songwriter. He spent most of his childhood shuttling between Montgomery, Alabama, where he was born in 1937, and Detroit. While in Detroit, he founded The Falcons, whose sound helped inspire the Temptations and the Four Tops.
Floyd moved to Memphis in 1965 and became a songwriter for Stax Records. He co-wrote with Steve Cropper and sang the 1966 R&B chart-topper, “Knock on Wood.” Sam and Dave, Otis Redding and Wilson Pickett were among the many artists who recorded his songs. In recent years, Floyd has performed with the Blues Brothers Band and returned to Stax Records, which is now owned by Concord Music Group.
