J. David Nelson, M.B.A., of Old Greenwich, Conn., was elected to the AARP Board in 2008. He serves on the Governance and Compensation Committee, the Nominating Committee and the AARP Foundation Board.
He is currently vice chairman, VaporStream Inc., a Chicago software company, and former chief operating officer of Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship, which teaches entrepreneurial and life skills to young people from low-income communities. During his 33-year career at IBM he served in positions that included senior director of IBM Global Services, general manager of Banking, Finance, and Securities Industries (IBM Greater China), and marketing executive of Global Financial Markets. He is a member of the Board of CenterLight Healthcare (formerly Comprehensive Care Management) and the Literacy Assistance Center, both based in New York City. Formerly, he was a member of the Blue Ribbon Committee for the Workplace, Inc. in Bridgeport, Conn., and a member of the Board, Strategy Committee, and the Ambassadors' Roundtable of the World Affairs Forum in Stamford, Conn. He was named a Purpose Prize fellow in 2006.
