Allen Douma, M.D., of Ashland, Ore., was elected to the AARP Board in 2008. He serves on the Member and Social Impact Committee and the Insurance Trust. He also served on the AARP Oregon Executive Council, the National Policy Council and the Audit and Finance Committee.
He is currently chief executive officer of Empower LLC. He was formerly the assistant director of the Oregon Department of Human Services, the CEO of Health Responsibility Systems and the medical director of the Hartford Insurance Company. He was also the medical director for the Travelers Insurance Company and the director of health education for the American Medical Association. He is a member of the Southern Oregon University Advisory Board and a board member of the Oregon Health Care Quality Corporation. He served as a commissioner on the Ashland Planning Commission and was recently appointed to the national Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) Governing Board.
