video: In an instant

Nearly 9 million Americans age 50 and over are at risk for hunger every day. It can happen in an instant: Someone falls upon hard times and can't afford food. The AARP and AARP Foundation Drive to End Hunger campaign and Jeff Gordon are working to fight older adult hunger.

Investing in the Future: L. A. Kitchen

L. A. Kitchen logo

AARP Foundation announces support for Robert Egger, founder of D.C. Central Kitchen and the Campus Kitchens program, to establish L.A. Kitchen in Los Angeles. Supported by a three-year, $1 million grant from the Foundation, the new venture will build on the successful model of D.C. Kitchen, which has been turning donated food from local businesses into meals for the needy since 1989. L.A. Kitchen will use produce from local farmers to make fresh and frozen products for older adults and provide a job-training program in the culinary arts. The building that will serve as home for L.A. Kitchen will be dedicated early in 2014.
