David Whitehead

Senior Vice President & Chief Development Officer

David Whitehead leads AARP & AARP Foundation’s development efforts for advocacy, charitable and social impact work.  Under his leadership, AARP has grown the number of donors to over 1.7 million with contributed revenue of over $34 million annually. 

David is a recognized leader in the non-profit sector. For over 22 years, he has dedicated himself to helping national and international organizations become more effective through philanthropy, fundraising and revenue growth.

Prior to joining AARP, David served as chief development officer for The Nature Conservancy where he led the largest fundraising effort for conservation in history, raising $1.4 billion over 5 years. David has also led development efforts for Special Olympics, Inc., the largest organization in the world supporting individuals with intellectual disabilities.
