WHERE: Make a difference in the shadow of some of America’s most iconic monuments.
The event will take place on the National Mall. It’s just a short walk from Penn Quarter and Metro accessible via Farragut West, Federal Triangle, Foggy Bottom or Smithsonian Metro stops via the Blue, Orange and Silver Lines. The location also features a pick-up/drop-off location next to the World War II Memorial.
WHEN: September 11, 2015
This truly special event takes place from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and pays tribute to the service commitment that is now such an important part of September 11th. Register to volunteer.
WHAT: 1 Day. More than 1 million meals.
On this day for helping others, join us in A Celebration of Service as we pack more than 1 million meals that will be distributed to struggling seniors, including veterans and first responders. Ready to break a record? The meal-packing venue can accommodate 1,000 volunteers at any given hour. You’ll work in teams to complete 60-minute Power Packs throughout the day. A Power Pack leader board will help teams track the number of meals packed and how they stack up against each other.
*All meals will be donated to the Capital Area Food Bank.
WHY: The challenges older adults face are real. The solution is all of us.
In the D.C. area, too many hardworking Americans 50 and older are struggling to hold on to their jobs, homes, food supply, social connections and basic legal rights. One meal can have an impact, so join us this September 11th to give back and be of service.
