Test Your Knowledge About Long-Term Care with AARP’s Long-Term Care Quiz

If I claim my Social Security benefits at age 62 and my wife waits to claim a spouse benefit at full retirement age, will she receive 50 percent of my full retirement benefit or 50 percent of the early retirement benefit?

As long as your wife claims benefits at her full retirement age or later, she would be eligible for half of your full retirement age benefit — and it will not be reduced because you claimed early. However, if she claimed prior to her full retirement age, she would receive a reduced benefit.
