What are rules for parents to collect benefits on their children's record?

In some cases, dependent parents can receive survivor benefits on their child's record.  In order for this to happen they must be over the age of 62, provide proof that at least 50 percent of their support came from the deceased caregiver (child), and they must be unable to receive a higher benefit on their own record.
