Millions of people are considering changing jobs, but the big question is: Where to go? Many of the top jobs these days are in the growing health care and tech sectors and require specialized training. But there are still plenty of jobs that don’t require extra schooling.
Glassdoor, a jobs website, recently released a list of the top 50 jobs in America. The ranking was based on the number of job openings, salary and overall job satisfaction rating in specific fields. Six stuck out as potential winners for older Americans looking to begin a second career.

- Facilities manager
- Executive assistant
- Management consultant
- Project manager
- HR generalist
"Many of these [six] jobs don't require extensive education or training, and offer the opportunity for people to leverage any past experience in business, management or professional networking to be successful," says Sarah Stoddard, Glassdoor's career trends expert.
The average median base salary for these six jobs was $73,686 — with a management consultant making the most at $110,000 and an executive assistant the least at $55,000. As for job satisfaction, a corporate recruiter ranked the highest in this category. The title of project manager had the most job openings, 23,274 to be exact.
While you might not have the education for Glassdoor’s No. 1 pick of data scientist, don’t immediately disregard jobs in the tech and health care fields. Glassdoor says a number of the above jobs can be found in those fields.
