The Road to Reemployment

Folks recently surveyed took these steps to get back to work after being unemployed

En españolAARP’s Public Policy Institute recently released a report: "The Long Road Back: Struggling to Find Work After Unemployment." The report features findings from a survey of nearly 2,500 workers ages 45 to 70 who faced unemployment in the past five years:

  • Almost 29 percent of workers ages 45-64 had been with their employer 10 or more years before losing their job. Only 23 percent of those workers received any type of severance or a buyout package.
  • Nearly 40 percent of those who lost their jobs collected unemployment benefits. While unemployed, 23 percent provided unpaid care for a family member or friend.
  • Over half of the 2,155 people ages 45-64 surveyed are now working again. Here are the steps they took to get back on the job.
