Summer Camps for Adults

Marshmallow Roasting, Family Outdoors, Forest Campfire, Summer Camps for Adults

Would you go back to the fun, freewheeling days of summer camp if you could? You can! If you’re up for it, there are a variety of unique theme-based camps designed just for mature folks. Look around and you’re bound to find an affordable and engaging option that fits your taste and budget. Here’s a good start:

Find your rhythm

Adult Band Camp

Got the music in you? Dust off your clarinet, and be a part of a live orchestra. At the Interlochen Center for the Arts in Michigan, you’ll join adults from across the United States and around the globe, and experience the joy of performing in an ensemble. The environment is challenging, supportive, fun and friendly.

Dates: Aug. 8-13

Cost: $545

Now, if money is no object and you wish to release your inner rock star, check out Rock ’n’ Roll Fantasy Camp! It’s a bit pricier, but it’s also a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to jam and be counseled by iconic rock stars. That’ll run you about $4,000.

Go old school

Camp Bonfire

For those who just want the classic summer camp experience  — canoeing, roasting marshmallows, singing campfire songs and the whole shebang — this adventure is waiting for you at Lake Owego in Pennsylvania’s Poconos Mountains. Over one weekend, you may find yourself kayaking, singing in a talent show or just relaxing in a hammock.

Dates:  June 16-18 or Sept. 8-10

Cost: $349 to $500

Space out

Adult Space Academy

Fulfill your dreams of becoming an astronaut by training just like one. This three- or four-day adventure in Huntsville, Ala., allows you to construct and launch a rocket, and test your engineering skills and operate an astronaut simulator.

Dates: Selected dates in June, July and September

Cost: $549/person for 3 days, $649/person for 4 days

Wine if you want

Tennis and Wine Camp

Improve your tennis swing with help from some of the top tennis coaches and professionals in the nation at Whitman College in Walla Walla, Wash. Then, enjoy award-winning wine and a five-star culinary meal. Tennis and chardonnay  — they go together so well!

Dates: June 1 to Aug. 13

Cost: $895 to $1,065

Want the wine without the tennis? Try this four-day wine camp adventure in Long Island, N.Y.

Go glamping

Yellowstone National Park

It’s glamorous camping, yet it’s quite affordable. At the Yellowstone Under Canvas luxury camp, you’ll sleep in a safari tent decked out with bed linens, furniture and a wood-burning stove. No need to hunt for wood, as it’s complimentary. Experience beautiful wildlife with a guided tour or get active with kayaking, water rafting or horseback riding. Don’t want to cook? You can dine at the onsite restaurant.

Dates: Check the website for availability.

Cost: $129 to $439
