HOME LIGHTING displays have moved beyond the traditional holiday season to spread cheer at Halloween and other times. Here are a few new options.

> Personalized Lights

Today’s LED bulb strings can produce many colors, from classic white to a rainbow. Some strings allow for color gradation and other effects.

> Pathway Lighting

Ground lights add a festive (or, in October, spooky) glow. Choices include low-profile ground stakes, luminaries with battery-powered LED candles and color strips for walkway edges.

> Projection Systems

With a digital projector and specialized software, you can assign animation to a specific area, so you can, for example, program a ghoul to appear at a window.

> Roofline Lighting

Several light makers offer LED modules that are permanently mounted on the soffits or roofline of your house. They can connect to smart-home systems so you can control them with a voice command. —Chris Morris
