Sir Ridley Scott, 88, the visionary behind such indisputable sci-fi classics as Alien and The Martian, returns with a plot centering on a pilot (Wuthering Heights’ Jacob Elordi, above left) who survives a deadly global pandemic and roams the postapocalyptic landscape with his dog and a grizzled ex-Marine (Josh Brolin, 58, above right). The thriller also stars Guy Pearce, 58, Allison Janney, 66, and The Leftovers’ Margaret Qualley.

Apple’s feel-good series returns. When we left off, fish-out-of-water soccer coach Jason Sudeikis, above center, had departed AFC Richmond for the States, leaving the team in the hands of its fiery former star, Roy Kent (Brett Goldstein). But now Sudeikis, 50, returns to England to coach Richmond’s new women’s team, which owner Rebecca Welton (Hannah Waddingham, 52) just launched.

Who will take home the hardware on TV’s biggest night? For best drama series, can a wild card like Pluribus or Paradise beat out The Pitt (Season 1 of which won for best TV series at AARP’s Movies for Grownups Awards in January)? And will Hacks or The Studio be named best comedy series? Whatever the details, we’ll go out on an early but sturdy limb and predict big evenings for Jean Smart, 74, above, accepting an Emmy in 2025, and Noah Wyle, 55.
