This Oscar season, we asked some famous musicians to pick film soundtracks that are worthy of top billing
THE MAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH (1956)
Mike Love of the Beach Boys: This album features the song “Que Sera, Sera (Whatever Will Be, Will Be),” sung by Doris Day. “She was a fantastic singer and it’s a beautiful song. It’s so relatable. It’s a nice piece of advice.”
BEYOND THE VALLEY OF THE DOLLS (1970)
Gerald V. Casale of Devo: “It’s amazing that somebody put all their talent into this kitschy stuff, but it’s perfectly produced and well played. It’s so bad that it’s good, and that is a category that Devo always respected.”
O BROTHER, WHERE ART THOU? (2000)
Art Alexakis of Everclear:
“A perfect storm of T Bone Burnett, who produced the soundtrack, with filmmakers the Coen brothers. It’s one of the most complete visions of a record I’ve heard. It’s just stunning.” —Craig Rosen
