Get a bargain on patio furniture. With summer ending, retailers may offer deals for items off the showroom floor. Ask the manager whether a discount is available and expect to see a 5 to 10 percent savings at a big-box store. “If you’re shopping at a smaller furniture store, where the manager has more control, you may be able to negotiate something closer to an additional 20 percent off floor models,” says Julie Ramhold, consumer analyst at DealNews.

Purchase an electric lawn mower. Since lawn mowers are marked down this time of year, it might be a good opportunity to invest in an electric model. It may cost you a bit more up front, but a Consumer Reports analysis found that homeowners could break even in just over two years, with gas at $4 per gallon. Over five years, the electric mower would net savings of more than $135.

Shop in-store for summer apparel and swimwear. The selection of hot weather clothing will be slimmer this time of year, but prices will be rock-bottom. Since end-of-season sale clothing is often not returnable, shopping in-store will allow you to try on the items to make sure they fit.

Get alerts for luggage sales. Add the suitcases you want to purchase to an online price tracker like Honey or Google Shopping to get alerts when they go on sale. These trackers can also give you a sense of whether a price is really a good deal. You can also sign up for text or email alerts through the manufacturer’s app.

Keep an eye out for TV deals. Early fall is a surprisingly good time to find discounts on television sets. “College and professional sports create retailer competition for fans looking to upgrade their sports viewing situation in the fall, when all our major sports have TV programming at the same time,” says Vipin Porwal, founder and CEO at the coupon and cash-back app Smarty. Use options like CamelCamelCamel, ShopSavvy and Slickdeals to track prices.
