FIGHTING FRAUD

The $61.5 billion stolen from Americans 60-plus [“Fraud 2025: How to Stay Safe and Fight Against the Latest Scams,” Cover Story, March/April] would still be in their wallets, purses, safes, bank accounts or at least under their mattresses, if only they had joined AARP and read its last decade’s Bulletin and magazine articles about financial scams!

RICHARD SIEGELMAN
PLAINVIEW, NEW YORK

It is easier to spot a fraud if you are prepared. There are three important lessons from your article. Even pros can be taken in. If you think you are being scammed, don’t be embarrassed, ask for help so that you can minimize the damage. Report the scam to the FBI and local law enforcement.

TRAVEL TALES

I thoroughly enjoyed the Bulletin’s interview with Rick Steves in the March/April edition. Not only is Rick the ultimate travel guru, whose counsel and guidebooks I’ve used on travels abroad, he appears to be a genuinely nice, good and decent person, a person I’d call a mensch. Thanks for the interview.

VOLUNTEER VALUE

Thanks to Dr. Minter-Jordan for reminding us of the power of volunteering [“When Help Is Needed”]. Volunteering for the last 35-plus years, I have seen positive changes and learned to use my voice to bring about change while creating relationships with other volunteers and my members of Congress.

SNOHOMISH, WASHINGTON
