Pamela Lighter is a project specialist with the Center to Champion Nursing in America at the AARP Public Policy Institute, where she provides administrative support for the education and leadership content areas and coordinates state site visits and other national and field events. Prior to joining the center, she was a research assistant at the Institute of Medicine, where she worked for more than 4 1/2 years with numerous committees, including the Committee on Improving the Quality of Cancer Care and the Committee on Living Well with Chronic Disease, which focused on improving the quality of life of and quality of care for individuals living with chronic conditions, particularly the older population. She graduated from the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health in 2013, earning a Master of Public Health and certificate on health disparities and health inequality, and she graduated from the University of Maryland in 2008, earning bachelor’s degrees in mathematics and general biology.
