ABOUT

Selena Caldera is senior strategic policy advisor at the AARP Public Policy Institute, where her work focuses on family caregiving and long-term care in the United States.
She has a special interest in understanding the diversity of caregiving experiences of caregivers in service of developing more equitable and effective policies and programs for all family caregivers, as well as caregiving for people experiencing Alzheimer’s and related dementia diagnoses.

Before joining AARP, Caldera spent over a decade working on public policy issues including health care, education, child welfare, immigration, and retirement income policy at a variety of organizations, including the US Department of Homeland Security, the Congressional Budget Office, the US Census Bureau, and Georgetown University. Her previous experience also includes work on the local level as the senior strategy analyst for Central Health in Travis County, Texas, where she analyzed the health care services provided by Central Health and the unmet health care needs in the county.  

She is a PhD candidate at the University of Texas at Austin and holds a master’s degree in public policy from Georgetown University and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin.
