Volunteers at the AARP Tucson Information Center are helping AARP build a local presence in the Tucson area. The volunteer-staffed center located at 6700 N. Oracle Road offers information on a variety of AARP programs and activities including the AARP Foundation WorkSearch Program.
“WorkSearch provides community level job and career information to people who are looking for employment,” said David Likness, AARP Tucson Information Center Coordinator. “It’s a customized system that offers a variety of services at no cost to the individual.”
WorkSearch helps people assess their skills, provides resources for online courses and study guides and offers a tracking and retention program of test scores to job matches. “The goal of WorkSearch is to help 50+ workers with an informed choice regarding their employment interests and options,” said Likness.
People interested in WorkSearch should contact the center to set up an appointment. Appointments should be made so that a WorkSearch orientation can be scheduled for new users. “It’s a convenient tool,” adds Likness. “But once users are registered and trained they can access WorkSearch from their home computer or at the library and job search at their own pace.”
In addition to WorkSearch, the center provides information about local AARP Tax-Aide sites, AARP Driver Safety Course locations and provides AARP speakers for events.
People interested in finding out more about the AARP Tucson Information Center or learning about volunteer opportunities can visit the AARP Tucson Information Center at 6700 N. Oracle Road, Suite 331 Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. or call (520) 571-9884.
