The Last American WWI Vet

The long life of Frank Woodruff Buckles

The last American veteran of the First World War has died.  Frank Woodruff Buckles died last week at his home in Charles Town, West Virginia, at the age of 110. He was one of nearly five million Americans to enlist when the U.S. entered the European war in 1917. For many years, World War I was just a footnote in the long life of Frank Buckles, until he found himself the last man standing.  Will Everett interviewed him for a documentary in 2006 and brings us this report.
