Opinions and priorities regarding legislative issues – and the areas of concern with which they deal – are explored in this 2005 mail survey of AARP’s Maine membership. Each of the three reports about the following topics presents survey results relating to each category.
- Consumer Protection: identity theft, check-cashing outlets and payday lending practices, sub-prime mortgage lending, home repair fraud, and investment scams
- Health Care: affordable prescription drugs, home and community-based care, maintaining long-term care (LTC) services for older persons and disabled residents, LTC financing
- Older Worker Employment: allowing individuals who qualify to receive Social Security income and unemployment benefits at the same time, strengthening state age discrimination laws, funding retraining programs for older workers
The mail survey of 1,347 AARP Maine members upon which these reports are based was conducted from August 26th through September 30th. Further information about this survey may be obtained by contacting Katherine Bridges of AARP Knowledge Management at 207-899-2094.
