AARP honored Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus, D, Mont., and the committee’s ranking Republican, Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa, for their critical role in steering legislation that provided the economic stimulus bonus for 20 million Social Security recipients this year.
“We especially applaud you for working to bring together colleagues from both sides of the aisle to enact this important piece of legislation,” CEO Bill Novelli wrote in letters to both senators. They received plaques honoring legislative excellence last month.
The new awards were created as part of AARP’s 50th anniversary celebration. Newly established Legislative Achievement and Legislative Leadership awards were presented to 18 other lawmakers.
