AARP Offers No Free Lunch Seminar

The AARP West Virginia State Office will be hosting four “No Free Lunch - Free Lunch” educational workshops across the state.

The workshops are designed to raise public awareness about the possible dangers of attending free lunch seminars.

AARP, in collaboration with the West Virginia Insurance Commission and the West Virginia State Auditor’s Office, is working diligently to fight consumer fraud by educating individuals about what to listen and look for at these “free lunch seminars.”

The program is part of a national campaign to monitor whether older investors are being pressured into purchasing investments that are not right for them.

The workshops provide an opportunity to serve in a volunteer capacity as free lunch monitors. Armed with a checklist, monitors will help assure that free investment seminars adhere to the guidelines set by financial regulators.

We hope you will consider joining us to learn ways to protect yourself and your family against investment fraud.

Each workshop is limited to the first 50 people who respond to this invitation by emailing

  • Tuesday, April 6, Staffilenos on the River, Wellsburg
  • Wednesday, April 7, Oglebay Resort & Conference Center, Wheeling
  • Wednesday, September 15, Hoss’s Steak & Sea House, Martinsburg

You can still help to fight fraud in West Virginia, even if you can’t attend one of the scheduled workshops. Individuals who receive an invitation and plan to attend a seminar can take the “What to Listen For” checklist and report their findings to AARP. Please visit the No Free Lunch site to download the checklist and help make the financial market place safer for all investors.
