The AARP Community Challenge

IMPACTS AND OUTCOMES

Grantees have delivered a range of positive results and outcomes following the award of an AARP Community Challenge grant. Since the grant debuted in 2017:

Attracting Funding

49% of grantees have succeeded in using the grant to garner additional funds or support from public and private funders, with grantees leveraging the projects to attract an additional $19 million in funding and support.

Overcoming Barriers

84% of grants helped spur change and overcome policy barriers — most often by providing the data and feedback needed to successfully advance policies, demonstrate the need to improve specific areas of a community, and engage residents with innovative ideas that lead to community buy-in.

Increasing Awareness

100% of grantees have seen increased community recognition of their work, more engagement from volunteers, and the development of new relationships for expanding their impact.
