Playgrounds for Grownups Catch On

Following the lead of other European cities, London installs low-impact exercise equipment in a public park.

In London’s Hyde Park this spring…a ribbon-cutting ceremony for a specially designed workout facility for older people…what’s being called a “pensioner’s playground.” It’s modeled on other playgrounds for adults in China and Europe, but the first of its kind in the British capital.

The seniors playground features six pieces of low-impact equipment…cross-trainer, sit-up bench, exercise bike. a flex wheel to work the arms, a free runner and a body flexer.

A leader of the Westminster Council says for many people “60 is the new 30”  and the chief executive of the Royal Parks says you’d be hard pressed to find a better view from any gym in London.
