Veterans Day 2019 Freebies, Deals and Savings

Vets and service members are eligible for free meals, shopping discounts and more

En español | If you are a veteran or a member of the military service you are eligible for a variety of deals and discounts around the country, particularly this holiday weekend. Among them are:

Travel

9/11 Museum in New York City: From Nov. 8 to Nov. 14 veterans receive free admission and half-price tickets for two family members.

Army Corp of Engineers Recreation Areas: No fees on Veterans Day at 2,800 recreation areas nationwide. Find the one closest to you.

Belmont Park in San Diego: Military, veterans and first responders can obtain two free unlimited ride passes valid on the weekends, among other deals, throughout November. You must first become a member of the Insider Club.

Harley-Davidson Museum in Milwaukee: From Nov. 8 to 11 the museum will offer free entry for all active-duty or retired military members, one additional adult and up to four children.

Jefferson Lines: All current and former military members can travel for free on the bus service on Nov. 11. Tickets must be obtained in person at any corporate location.

Knott’s Berry Farm in Buena Park, California: Active and retired military personnel may receive free admission for themselves and one guest Nov. 3-21 and Dec. 2-19.

La Quinta by Wyndham: Military members, veterans and their families can get 15 percent off the best available rate at hotels across the U.S. if booked by Dec. 5 and stay is completed by Dec. 6, 2019.

Legoland Florida Resort: Veterans and service members get free admission to the resort Nov. 1-25. Up to six guests can receive a 50 percent discount on the same dates. On Veterans Day, receive a free American flag wristband for 10 percent off food and retail purchases and other deals. The hotel offers a discount of up to 25 percent, subject to availability.

Monticello, Virginia: U.S. military veterans and service members can enter Monticello, Thomas Jefferson’s historic home and gardens, for free on Veterans Day weekend, Nov. 10-12.  (Admission is free for active-duty military year-round.)

Mount Vernon, Virginia: All military members and veterans get free entry to George Washington’s home on the Potomac River on Veterans Day.

National Parks: All national parks offer free admission for all on Veterans Day. Many historical sites are also served by the National Park Service.

National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky: Veterans, police, firefighters and their accompanying family members under 18 have free admission the entire month of November.

Newseum, Washington, D.C.: Free admission for active duty or retired military members and one guest Nov. 9– 11.

New Mexico Museum of Space History, Alamogordo: Free admission for veterans on Nov. 11.

Oklahoma City Zoo: The zoo offers free admission to all active-duty and retired military on Nov. 11.

San Antonio Zoo in Texas: For the month of November, the zoo will offer free admission to all military members, active or retired. Up to four immediate family members can receive 50 percent off admission.

Zoo Atlanta: On Nov. 11 active-duty and retired military can enjoy free admission and $4 off admission for up to six accompanying guests.

Nationwide Restaurants

Applebee’s: Service members and veterans dining in can receive a free meal at participating locations on Veterans Day.

Bob Evans: Veterans and service members can enjoy a free entrée from their select menu on Nov. 11.

Bonefish Grill: Vets and active-duty service members can splurge on a free appetizer with purchase of an entrée.

California Pizza Kitchen: Veterans and serving military can receive a complimentary entrée from the restaurant’s Veterans Day menu at participating locations. Guests will also receive a card for a buy-one-get-one-free offer on pizza, pasta or salad during a return visit Nov. 12-20.

Carlos O’Kelly’s: A free entrée is offered to veterans and active military on Veterans Day.

Chili’s: Veterans and active military can enjoy a free entrée from a list of seven options while dining in on Nov. 11.

Chipotle: The restaurant is offering service members and veterans a buy-one-get-one-free deal on burritos, burrito bowls, salads and taco orders, Nov. 11 after 3 p.m.

Cracker Barrel: Veterans and active-duty military can receive a crafted coffee, espresso or slice of double chocolate fudge Coca-Cola cake on Nov. 11.

Dunkin’: Veterans and active-duty members can enjoy a free doughnut, no purchase necessary.

Fogo de Chão: The weekend of Nov. 8 to 11 veterans and active-duty members receive 50 percent off a meal and for up to three guests, an additional 10 percent off.

Friendly’s: On Nov. 11 vets and service members can get a free burger meal with drink or free Big-Two-Do breakfast with coffee if they dine in.

Golden Corral: All current and former members of the military can enjoy a free dinner from 5 to 9 p.m.

The Greene Turtle: Participating locations will offer a complimentary $14 meal to veterans and active military members on Nov. 11.

Houlihan’s: If dining in, veterans and active-service members may a enjoy a free meal from Houlihan’s Veterans Day menu.

IHOP: The restaurant will offer a free red, white and blue short stack of pancakes or breakfast combo on Veterans Day to retired and active-duty military.

K&W Cafeteria: Veterans and active-duty military can indulge in a free meal including beverage from 11 a.m. to close on Nov. 11.

Macaroni Grill: Veterans and service members receive a free Mom’s Ricotta Meatballs + Spaghetti on Nov. 11.

Outback Steakhouse: Service members, veterans, police officers, firefighters and first responders will receive 20 percent off their entire check between Nov. 8 and Nov. 11. A 10 percent discount will apply beginning Nov. 12 for the rest of the year.

Red Robin: Veterans and active military members can indulge in a free Tavern Double burger with bottomless steak fries on Veterans Day at participating locations for dine-in only. Join their military program for year-round offers.

Sheetz: All Sheetz locations will offer veterans and service members a free six-inch turkey sub with regular size drink. Locations that offer car washes will also provide a free wash on Nov. 11.

Other

Amazon: Current military and veterans can get $40 off an Amazon Prime membership Nov. 6-11. 

Ancestry: From Nov. 8 to 17 the genealogy company will open its archive of U.S. military records and allow the public to search for free. More than 260 million military records will be available.

Mattress Firm: The store already offers 10 percent off year-round to veterans. But there may be some additional deals for service members on Veterans Day.

Dollar General: The store will offer an 11 percent discount in-store and online for veterans and their families on Nov. 11. To take advantage of the offer online use the code MILITARY11.

Great Clips: On Veterans Day military members who visit a salon can receive a free haircut or a card to redeem for a free cut by the end of the year. Non-military customers can receive a free-haircut card to give to a veteran or active-duty military if they purchase a service that day.

Publix: Veterans and their families can save 10 percent on groceries on Nov. 11.

Sports Clips: Many locations offer free haircuts on Nov. 11.

Target: A 10 percent military discount is available for current and former members on purchases in-store and online from Nov. 3 to 11. Verify eligibility and receive coupon here.

B&B for Vets: Participating inns are offering one free room on Sunday, Nov. 10, to enjoy the holiday.
