Game On for 22-Year-Old Rapper and Retiree

Words With Friends brought the unlikely pair together

An unlikely friendship between a 22-year-old rapper from Harlem and an 81-year-old woman from Florida has sparked smiles across the internet.

After they had played more than 300 rounds of Words With Friends, a Scrabble-like phone game, Spencer Sleyon traveled over 1,000 miles to finally meet his opponent, Rosalind “Roz” Guttman, in Palm Beach on Dec. 1.

Spencer Sleyon traveled from New York to Florida for this face-to-face meeting with Rosalind Guttman.

“From day one I knew I was playing an old white woman,” Sleyon told the Washington Post. Not only was she a good player, Sleyon said, but he also enjoyed their casual chitchat. When he asked her for life advice, she told him, “Shoot for the stars. Whatever you want out of life, just go grab it.”

Sleyon posted photos of the pair’s meeting on social media, which quickly garnered thousands of likes.

And the matches will continue — in fact,  they have three games going on simultaneously, Sleyon told the Post. They also have a new way to keep in touch, as they just connected on Facebook.
