April is National Minority Health Month, and the Office of Minority Health (OMH), under the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), is offering a series of online events for people to learn more about the health status of racial and ethnic minority populations and to celebrate collaborative efforts to improve care.

The 2018 theme is "Partnering for Health Equity" and the aim is to highlight partnerships at the federal, state, tribal and local levels, and to highlight "the work being done in communities across the country to reduce disparities in health and health care," the director of the OMH, Matthew Y.C. Lin, said in a video statement.

Upcoming activities include webinars aimed at health workers who are active in minority communities, and an April 17 Livestream discussion with Lin and other HHS and federal officials. Leaders from the HHS Office of the Secretary, Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health, and Indian Health Service will participate. There is also an April 18 Twitter event from 2 to 3 p.m. EDT, which can be followed at #HealthEquityChat.

OMH is also seeking "Partnerships in Action" stories about community collaborations that are helping to advance health equity or reduce health disparities. Stories may include information on partnering with an organization to hold a health fair or blood drive, or working with a local organization to start a community garden. Stories should include how the partnership made a difference in the community and suggestions on how others can create a similar partnership or get involved with your efforts.
