Join AARP at Rocky Mountain Raceways to Fight Hunger

AARP Utah members, start your engines for “Christmas in July” at Rocky Mountain Raceways this summer. On July 14, 20, and 28 guests who donate canned goods to the Utah Food Bank and AARP members will be given a discount on their admission ticket to the races for that evening.

We encourage donations of food that is healthy – low in sodium and fat – to benefit recipients. But any item found in a grocery store is a good donation to the Food Bank, including baby items, pet food, first aid, or personal items like soap and shampoo.

For the special “Christmas in July” races at the Raceways, gates will open at 4pm July 14 and 20, and racing will begin at 6 pm on the 14 and 4:30 pm on the 20.

On July 28, gates open at Noon, with Feature Cars at 6:30 pm and 9:30 pm. Rocky Mountain Raceways is located at 6555 West 2100 South in West Valley City.

If you can’t make it to the races, please consider donating to the Utah Food Bank in other ways. You can donate food, money or time by going to their website. If you wish to donate money, consider making it as a member of Team AARP Utah; just click on “donation type” and then “donate as a team member,” and scroll down to AARP Utah.

Of course, any donation of time, food or money is appreciated, regardless of the form it takes. The Utah Food Bank can stretch each dollar donated into seven dollars worth of direct assistance through bulk purchases and the like, so your donation will be greatly appreciated.

Summertime is particularly important at the Utah Food Bank, as children still need hunger relief but may be missing meals because they are not receiving school breakfast or lunch assistance. Food insecurity is a huge problem in Utah, but AARP is working to reduce this threat through volunteer service, food deliveries, and partnerships with groups like the Rocky Mountain Raceways.
