Create The Good in Your Community

Create the Good is AARP’s new initiative to promote volunteerism and connect members with local community service.

The term “Create the Good” came from a speech our founder, Ethel Percy Andrus, gave on community service where she said, “The challenge to live up to our better selves, to believe well of our fellow men and perhaps by doing so to help create the good, to experiment, to explore, to change and to grow.”

AARP Create the Good is a destination for people to connect to ways to make a difference. Right now, we have more than 9 million people giving back through AARP. But, we don’t want to stop there. With nearly 40 million members, think about what could be achieved with just one percent of them taking an extra step to help achieve health care reform or helping people in their community live independently. Getting involved through AARP is a great way to get to know your community better, meet new people and help improve the lives of your neighbors.

In celebration of National Volunteer Week (April 18-24), we encourage you to visit the Create the Good website and commit to a personal day of service during National Volunteer Week and beyond.

You can find opportunities that enable you to make a difference in your community! Visit Create the Good online to search by ZIP code to discover traditional service activities or find do-it-yourself toolkits to initiate individual or group projects, and explore 5-minute opportunities that will fit your busy schedule.

It only takes a few minutes! Visit today and get started!
