“AARP is powered by its members and volunteers who work with us to champion issues and advocate for the 50+ population,” said Nancy McPherson, AARP Louisiana State Director. “The State President position is the top volunteer leader within the AARP state office and has the opportunity to make a positive difference in the lives of many people.”
AARP Louisiana is currently accepting applications for State President. The State President is an individual with strong leadership and interpersonal skills, strategic planning experience, a talent for networking, and the ability to motivate and inspire others.
“Our State Presidents have been visionary leaders with passion for issues that impact people as they age,” said McPherson. “The State President is the voice and face of AARP Louisiana, representing nearly 500,000 members statewide.”
The State President partners with the State Director to help achieve the Association’s vision, mission and strategic priorities in the state and serves as Chair of the AARP Louisiana Executive Council. The Council, in collaboration with the State Director and staff, develops the framework for the state’s strategic plan and implements planned activities and legislative initiatives in the areas of Economic Security, Health and Livable Communities.
The State President’s term is two years and the time commitment is flexible and varies. Benefits include reimbursement of all approved expenses including travel throughout Louisiana and the United States, as well as training and support from the state, regional and national offices and top issue experts. The position enables state presidents to build networks and partnerships with organizations and key decision makers that will endure long after their term in office.
