AARP Programs Need Your Help

Are you looking for a meaningful volunteer opportunity? Do you like to speak in front of large groups, or do you prefer a one-on-one experience? Want to help older adults; or would you like to help a child in school? Or maybe your children and grandchildren are grown and you long for that type of relationship again.

There are several AARP programs that can use your help. In many cases, training is available. If you are interested in learning more about any of these programs, send an email to oraarp@aarp.org or click on a link below.

Driver Safety

AARP Foundation’s signature program to help older drivers improve their driving skills and stay safe on the road, is looking for volunteers to coordinate and teach classes in your community. There are several roles you can fill.

  • Instructors: Organize and teach classroom courses at local community centers, libraries, hospitals and senior centers.
  • Coordinators: Manage AARP Driver Safety courses in your district, region or state. Recruit and supervise instructors, plan and conduct instructor workshops, and work with local sponsors.
  • Marketing Specialists: Locate potential classroom host sites, identify publicity or promotion opportunities and coordinate exhibits at local and statewide events.

Hidden Hunger

In Oregon, we are building a network of volunteers to focus on alleviating hunger, especially senior hunger, in support of the AARP Foundation Drive to End Hunger. AARP Oregon needs volunteer organizers in every corner of our state to coordinate local activities including special events and food drives to help fill the empty pantries of our state’s food banks. Whether you have 5 minutes, 5 hours or 5 days to volunteer, we need your help. If you are interested, email us at oraarp@aarp.org.

Money Management Program

If you can balance your own checkbook, you can help someone with theirs. The AARP Oregon Money Management Program provides financial management assistance to help low-income older or disabled adults who have difficulty budgeting, paying routine bills and keeping track of financial matters.

Tax Aide

AARP Foundation Tax Aide, the nation’s largest free, volunteer-run tax preparation and assistance service, is seeking volunteers across the state to help Oregon taxpayers who are seeking assistance preparing and filing their tax returns.

Many kinds of volunteer opportunities are available – from tax volunteers to greeters, as well as communications, technology and administrative coordinators

AARP Foundation Tax Aide volunteers receive free tax training and are reimbursed on a limited basis for qualified program-related expenses. They help taxpayers at sites around the state, learning new skills while giving back to countless communities.
