Do You Remember These Boomer TV Shows?

'Jeopardy!'

Fifty years ago this March, 'Jeopardy!' debuted on NBC with Art Fleming as host. Current host Alex Trebek, left, with contestant Ken Jennings (who has the record for longest winning streak), got the job in 1984. 1964 became a landmark year for boomer TV favorites. Here are some others from that year.

'Flipper'

Dubbed “the aquatic Lassie,” the series, which ran from 1964-1967, was about the adventures of two Florida boys but the real star was their pet bottlenose dolphin.

'Peyton Place'

Based on the racy 1956 novel, the first prime-time soap opera featured an idyllic town and its harrowing secrets and made Mia Farrow (center) and Ryan O’Neal (left) the hottest couple on TV at the time.

'Bewitched'

Enchanting Elizabeth Montgomery starred as witch and suburban housewife, Samantha, who tries not to use her supernatural powers to solve problems or help hapless husband Darrin, played by Dick York. Oscar nominee Agnes Moorehead was Samantha’s mom, the uncontrollable witch, Endora.

'Gilligan’s Island'

Bob Denver (seated in red) as Gilligan was at the center of seven mismatched personalities stranded on a deserted island. Russell Johnson, seated left, "the professor," recently died, leaving Tina Louise, standing center, and Dawn Wells, in pigtails, as the last living stars of the show, which ran until 1967.

'The Addams Family'

Adapted from a series of New Yorker cartoons, this macabre sitcom, which ran until 1966, featured Carolyn Jones as Morticia and John Astin as Gomez Addams. It later became a revived series, a Broadway musical and a movie, with Anjelica Huston as Morticia.

'The Man From U.N.C.L.E.'

In this ‘60s spy series David McCallum, who now plays Ducky on CBS’s NCIS, and Robert Vaughn used a charm offensive and a bevy of gadgets to battle baddies from Thrush.

'Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C.'

Played by singer-actor Jim Nabors, Gomer Pyle originated as a character on The Andy Griffith Show.  He proved so popular he got a spinoff series, which ran until 1969.
