The stars shined bright at the 2023 Screen Actor Guild Awards — really bright — with eye-catching yellow gowns punctuating the usual sea of black sequins. But who really turned on the glam? Hollywood’s over-50 actresses, of course. Here’s a sampling of the evening’s best looks.

Jamie Lee Curtis, 64

Self-proclaimed “nepo baby” Jamie Lee Curtis stood out from the crowd in a long-sleeved red Romona Keveza gown with a plunging neckline and the wedding ring her father, Tony Curtis, gave her mother, Janet Leigh. In accepting the award for outstanding female actor in a supporting role, the Everything Everywhere All at Once star — and AARP Movies for Grownups honoree — couldn’t contain her excitement. “The truth of the matter is I am 64 years old, and this is just amazing! What a dream!”

Angela Bassett, 64

The Blank Panther: Wakanda Forever actress took center stage in a form-fitting, bright yellow, off-the-shoulder Giambattista Valli couture gown adorned with organza ruffles at the neckline and hem. Bassett accessorized the look with a Judith Leiber seashell-shaped clutch bedazzled with gemstones. She told People that her recent spate of honors “feels absolutely tremendous, wonderful and just so satisfying. I'm really appreciative, humbled absolutely, and grateful."

Michelle Yeoh, 60

Yeoh, another MFG winner, turned heads in a black strapless ankle-length dress with yellow fringe by Schiaparelli couture, accessorized with Moussaieff yellow diamond chandelier earrings and ring. The Everything Everywhere All at Once actress tearfully accepted the award for outstanding performance by a female actor in a leading role — the first Asian woman to win in that category — acknowledging the long-overdue embrace of diversity in Hollywood. “Thank you for giving me a seat at the table,” she said. “We want to be seen. We want to be heard. And I am eternally grateful.”

Third time’s the charm for the Tár actress. Blanchett dazzled in a low-cut, form-fitting sequin-and-lace black refurbished Giorgio Armani Privé dress she originally wore to the Golden Globes in 2014 and Cannes in 2018.

Fran Drescher, 65

SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher was in fine form at the ceremony. The Nanny star sparkled in a long-sleeved black-and-gold sequined gown with a keyhole neckline by Naeem Khan. The dress, she said, was a nod to “old Hollywood glamour. And I was so excited to wear it.”

Niecy Nash-Betts, 53

The Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story nominee wore an eye-popping canary yellow strapless gown custom designed by Vera Wang. She finished the look with a silver Tyler Ellis clutch bag and jewelry from Martin Katz. Typically known for comedic fare, Nash-Betts said she relished the chance to take on a dramatic role. “I am more than just the funny girl,” she noted. “I have a couple of tricks up my sleeve.”

Sally Field, 76

The multitalented actress received the top honor of the evening, SAG’s Life Achievement Award, from her Amazing Spider-Man costar, Andrew Garfield. Dressed in a classic ankle-length gown with nude cutouts, Field was clearly touched to be fêted by her peers for her five decades of work. “Oh lord in heaven. Actors all standing on their feet!” she gushed. In reflecting about her storied career, she noted: “I've been Mrs. Doubtfire’s employer, Forrest Gump’s mother, Lincoln’s wife and Spider-Man’s aunt. … There is not a day that I don't feel quietly thrilled to call myself an actor.”

Viola Davis, 57

Wearing the standout color of the night — bold yellow — The Woman King nominee took classic beauty to a new level. The simple floor-dusting Valentino gown with scooped neckline, adorned with jeweled hoops and cuff bracelets, made the case for less is more. Much more.

Jennifer Coolidge, 61

The White Lotus star continued her winning streak with awards for the outstanding performance by a female actor in a drama series and outstanding performance by an ensemble. Her look was a winner, too: A black floor-length, body-skimming Saint Laurent black dress with a cleavage-enhancing sweetheart neckline. Coolidge wore a ’60s-style coif  — a black headband holding back her teased blond locks — to complete the look. “This has been a very special year,” she said tearfully. “I want you all to know I am just so grateful ... so grateful.”
