Queen Latifah, 52, accented her caftan-style black gown with emerald earrings. Stopping on the red carpet to speak with E’s Laverne Cox, Latifah offered advice to young performers: “I would say to you now is the time to do whatever the eff you want with your career. … Don’t be a pawn, control your career, speak from the heart, say what you want to say.” Latifah performed as part of the celebration of 50 years of hip-hop. “We had to fight to get on the Grammys quite a time ago, so it’s great to be here to celebrate this in front of the entire world with people who were my mentors, who showed us everything about how to move and shake and perform.”

It’s work. It’s not just overnight. But once you know that’s who you are, it’s going to continue to be work. And that’s just it, it’s consistent work. ...
