AARP, Trailblazers Fight Hunger with Hoops

Join AARP Oregon staff, volunteers, and other members for AARP Night at Portland’s Rose Garden on Sunday, Feb. 27 at 7:30 pm. . Discounted tickets are available for purchase to AARP members.

This year, AARP Oregon is working to take a bite out of the growing hunger crisis in Oregon (one in five Oregonians reported not having enough food in 2009) with the help of the Trailblazers. For every ticket sold, $3 will be donated to Loaves & Fishes Centers, The Meals-on-Wheels People to help fight hunger. Even if you can’t make the game, learn how you can do good in your community.

AARP members, volunteers and Trail Blazer guests will gather for an optional pre-game buffet dinner and AARP members will sit together in a group section watching the Portland Trailblazers play the Atlanta Hawks. After the game, attendees will get the chance to participate in a free throw contest on the court.

“Members tell us this is one of their favorite events of the year for catching up with old friends and making new ones, and this time we can help those in need too,” said Jerry Cohen, AARP Oregon State Director.
