Hamilton vs. Jefferson: The Rivalry that Shaped America

Discover more about the conflict that took shape in the 1790s between America’s first political parties

Explore the popularity of Alexander Hamilton a bit deeper with “Hamilton vs. Jefferson: The Rivalry that Shaped America.” In this lecture, Louis Masur, a distinguished professor of American studies and history at Rutgers University, builds off the success of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Broadway play.

“[This is the] No. 1 course out of almost 300 now,” says One Day University founder Steven Schragis. “When Hamilton came out, we asked Professor Masur, who’s a Jefferson guy, if he had anything interesting to say about Jefferson’s relationship with Hamilton. He said, ‘Actually, yes. They hated each other every bit as much as the show implies.’”
