Admittedly, the magic of a road trip can be tricky to pin down and define. Endless hours in close quarters with children hyped up on Pixy Stix and Wonka Bars, endless cornfields in Nebraska and Iowa, and the thousands of miles of wear casually slapped onto your now, not-so-brand-new vehicle. Yeah, at first glance, jumping in the sedan for a cross-country trek can seem a little misguided—if not entirely insane.

But they have a special way of teaching us the timeless, proverbial phrase, “it’s about the journey, not the destination.” They give us the unique opportunity to stop focusing exclusively on where we’re going and reflect more heavily on what’s along the way.

If you do decide to travel by four wheels, wherever you may be going, it’s a good idea to be prepared for the new areas you might be venturing into. Preparation takes the burden of worry off your mind so you can focus on the brisk air rolling off Lake Michigan and the rolling hills of Lexington.
