General Motors (GM) is recalling an estimated 40,428 Chevrolet trucks due to a potential fire hazard, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The recall affects certain 2019-2023 Chevrolet 4500HD, 5500HD, and 6500HD Medium-Duty trucks. The brake pressure sensor assembly may leak brake fluid into the brake pressure switch, which can cause an electrical short circuit. This can lead to a fire while driving or parked.

GM is advising owners of affected vehicles to park their vehicles outside and away from structures until the recall repair is complete. Dealers will replace the master cylinder pressure sensor and inspect the wire harness, replacing it free of charge if necessary.

Owners can contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 to schedule a repair. The recall number is N222375270. Letters notifying owners of the safety risk are expected to be mailed on May 29. A second letter will be sent once a remedy is available.

Owners can also contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 888-327-4236.
