Hi Res Image

John Larew is the president & CEO of AARP Services, a wholly owned subsidiary of AARP founded in 1999 to manage the wide range of products and services that are offered as benefits to AARP’s members. John brings 25 years of experience in strategy and operations, and the experience of a versatile senior global professional.

Prior to his appointment to this role in November 2019, John served as AARP Services’ SVP of Branded Products (since January 2017) and as SVP of Health Products & Services (since June 2015), currently with responsibility for all health and financial products made available from third-party providers under the AARP brand, which address the specific needs of people 50-plus.

The AARP-branded health products aim to deliver health security and better health outcomes for older Americans. Presently, 10 million AARP members hold insurance policies and about three million engage in discount transactions annually. The AARP-branded financial products, including the credit card; auto, home, motorcycle and mobile home insurance; and investment products and life insurance programs, provide value to more than six million individuals.

Prior to AARP Services, John was a principal of Oliver Wyman’s Health & Life Science Practice for five years, where he advised healthcare payers, providers, and new entrant disruptors, primarily on issues related to healthcare reform and value-based care. AARP and AARP Services were among his repeat clients. He worked closely with AARP Services on the extension of the UnitedHealth Group agreements in 2013, and the organization’s long-term health strategies and exploration of areas of white space. In addition, he advised AARP on the creation of its Innovation Fund, established to invest in early stage companies.

During his tenure with Oliver Wyman (formerly Mercer Management Consulting), he also served for over a decade as a principal and partner in its Manufacturing, Transportation & Energy Practice. Previously, John was an engagement manager with Roland Berger Strategy Consultants, based in Frankfurt, Paris and London, advising clients in aviation, utilities, telecoms and heavy industry.

John graduated cum laude from Harvard University with a bachelor’s degree in social studies.
