Video: AARP Salutes Col. Frederick Lough

What is it like being a battlefield surgeon?

From 1970 to 1987 Colonel Frederick Lough served his county as a surgeon in the U.S. Army Medical Corps. In 1987, he left the Army and went into private practice, but when he saw soldiers in harm’s way in Afghanistan, he accepted a commission with the U.S. Army Medical Corps Resevers and returned to service in 2007 at age 58.
