Photographer George Steinmetz was always fascinated by deserts. But he wasn't satisfied just shooting these stretches of dry land from ground level. So he learned to fly a motorized paraglider for low-altitude, one-of-a-kind shots of desert terrain and the widlife and people who inhabited it.

He covered the Sahara for National Geographic, followed by desert projects in Iran, Libya, China and other countries that can be difficult for an American to explore, much less photograph from the skies. My Generation comes along for this thrilling ride.
