How do spousal benefits work?

En español | When a worker files for retirement benefits, the worker's spouse may be eligible for a spousal benefit. If the spouse has reached full retirement age, the benefit will be equal to half of the worker's full retirement benefit. Spousal benefits can be taken as early as 62, but will be reduced.
