AARP's Social Security Q&A Tool

How can I get a copy of my award letter or original statement from Social Security?

En español | Award letters (the original official statement from the Social Security Administration that it will pay you a benefit, and how much) are sent to people who have applied for benefits.  You can request a copy by calling the Social Security Administration toll free at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY – 1-800-325-0778).

The Social Security Statement provides information about your earnings history and estimates of your Social Security benefits.  You can get your statement online at www.socialsecurity.gov/myaccount/.  Paper statements are mailed to people who are 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, 55, and over 60 who do not receive benefits and have not set up an online account with Social Security.
