AARP's Social Security Q&A Tool

If I claim my Social Security benefits at age 62 and my wife waits to claim a spouse benefit at age 66, will she receive 50 percent of my full retirement benefit (which I'd be eligible for at full retirement age) or 50 percent of the reduced benefit I would get because I am claiming early?

As long as your wife claims benefits at her full retirement age or later, she would be eligible for half of your full retirement age benefit — and it will not be reduced because you claimed early. However, if she claimed prior to her full retirement age, she would receive a percentage of your full retirement benefit.
