AARP's Social Security Q&A Tool

Can I receive a civil service pension and Social Security at the same time?

En español | Yes, you can receive a Social Security benefit and a Civil Service pension. However, your Social Security benefit may be reduced. If you are receiving retirement benefits, your benefit could be reduced by the Windfall Elimination Provision. If you are receiving spouse, ex-spouse or survivor benefits, your benefit will be reduced by the Government Pension Offset.
