En español | Generally, your Social Security benefits as a spouse, widow or widower will not be reduced if you are receiving a government pension that is not based on your earnings. Thus, if the wife is getting a pension based on her husband's earnings, then her benefit should not be affected by the Windfall Elimination Provision. However, if she receives a govt. pension based on her own earnings, then her widow benefit will be affected by Government Pension Offset, which reduces Social Security benfity by 2/3 the amount of the government pension received.
