Saint Barnabas Health Care System offers training opportunities and alternate job assignments to senior nursing staff requiring sedentary work, and flexible work arrangements, modified work schedules, and reduced hours are offered to accommodate employees with unique needs. Financial incentives are offered to employees who complete biometric screenings, well-visits with primary care physicians and on-line health risk assessments by year end. A notable forty-two percent of Saint Barnabas employees are age 50 and over.

Recruiting: Saint Barnabas uses senior placement agencies to target mature workers and retirees.
 
Workplace Culture / Continued Opportunities: Employees working 20 or more hours per week are offered tuition reimbursement and those working 10 or more hours per week are eligible for certification classes. All employees are offered in-house classroom training and online training. Saint Barnabas offers on-site undergraduate and graduate programs in affiliation with several New Jersey universities.

Long-service anniversaries are celebrated with announcements, parties, award, and monetary rewards are given to employees with 10 or more years of service.

Employees have opportunities to gain new experiences by working on team projects, on temporary assignments in other departments, by participating in a formal job rotation program and through cross training.

Managers who are graduates of the Systems Leadership Institute are given opportunities to work in groups on operational issues.
 
Benefits/Health: Employees working 20 or more hours per week receive individual and family medical and prescription drug coverage, individual and family vision insurance, as well as short- and long-term disability. Individual and family dental insurance is offered to employees working 38 or more hours per week. Flexible spending accounts (FSAs), and health savings accounts (HSAs) are available to assist in covering out-of-pocket health care costs.
