This workers compensation company provides flexible work schedule, on-site college courses.

Benefits/Financial: Full- and part-time employees are offered a 401(k) plan with employer match, a 457(b) plan and a defined-benefit plan. Employees age 50 and over can make catch-up contributions to their savings plan, and may choose to invest in lifecycle funds that automatically re-allocate assets based on the employee's age or proximity to retirement.

Employees are offered financial education from the staff of the financial services firm that administers their savings plan, and from external financial planning experts.

Pinnacol offers numerous options to allow for caregiving including paid time off, short- and long-term leaves of absence without pay, a paid time off bank that employees can use for any reason, and flexible scheduling.

Full- and part-time employees are offered flu shots, health screenings, health risk appraisals, health club discounts, physical activity and weight loss programs, health fairs, as well as stress management training.

Pinnacol offers referral services to assist with child care, care for grandchildren, and eldercare as well as back-up care for child care and grandchild care to its employees.

Benefits/Alternative Work Arrangements: Alternative work arrangements such as flex time, compressed work schedules and telecommuting are offered to employees working 20 or more hours per week. Full-time employees are eligible to move to part-time work on a permanent or temporary basis.  

Opportunities for Retirees: Pinnacol has 175 retirees and an individual directly responsible for retiree relations. The company stays connected to its retirees by communicating with them on a regular basis, by inviting retirees to organization events, by providing retirees with ongoing access to retirement planning workshops and information, and by formally acknowledging retirees upon retirement. The company Alumni Program also runs its own blog, which includes links of interest to retirees. Work opportunities including temporary work assignments and part-time work are available to retired employees.

Age of Workforce: Thirty percent of Pinnacol Assurance employees are age 50 and over. The average tenure of such employees is 10.3 years.
